Have you ever noticed how some names just stick and that some just can't seem to be remembered by people at all? Having a domain name isn't that very far off from other things. Can you imagine remembering a movie with a very long title? Try this on for size, the assassination of Jesse James by the coward Robert Ford. If you're not quite familiar with the movie, do you think you can remember a title as long as that? In some cases, perhaps not. So what makes your domain name any different from this? You will not enjoy an automatic popular status when you register your site; neither will you have a huge base of people who patronize your site immediately. You need to break in to the market just like any other business. So how can you have a name that's not so easily forgotten? That's easy. 1. Don't register a name that's confusing and hard to spell. Let's face it. Not everybody has the patience to remember something that's confusing and hard to spell unless it's really worth their time. It's simply because something that wouldn't really appeal to them wouldn't be so worthwhile especially when they need to remember it. Even the biggest names on the internet have the quite easy to remember, catchy and easy to spell names like Google and Yahoo. Take from their example and find a domain name that will appeal to people all over. You definitely wouldn't regret it. 2. Make the name you use be directly related to your type of business when possible. Having a name that would be contrary to your business would be definitely defeating the purpose of having a site at all. You would need to have a name that would have a direct relation to the type of business you're running. Having a clever name for your site is only second to the message it should be sending out. If you have a business that deals with financing for instance, you shouldn't have a name that's sports or entertainment related or anything else. It seems only right to have a fitting name wouldn't it? Then again, always have a name that can be easily remembered, as short as possible and definitely something that is easy to spell. 3. Find a name that's catchy and easily pronounced. So why bother having a name that's catchy to the eyes and ears? Well, why not right? You should have a name like that in order that people who visit your site wouldn't easily forget about it. With that hope running through people's minds, you can't just help but think that those people who have come across your site would tell their friends and other people about it. And that only means one thing for you – more hits. Along with these hits, more transactions and ultimately more profit. So now, you have to make your decision.
