Seven Things To Consider When Creating A Domain Name

In order for you to run your company's website, you will need to have a domain first followed by the domain name. To make everything legal and organized, you will then have to register your domain. Most people struggle with the domain name. Yep, the domain name will serve as your sites address so it is important that you get everything right when choosing the domain name. Here are some things you should consider.

1. Think about your line of business. Some domain names are based on the items, materials or focus of the business. For example if you sell clothes, then you might decide on a domain name that goes “shopclothesonline.com.” Using the items you sell will surely let the people know what your site is all about. If you are into real estate, you can use terms that pertain to land or the word real estate itself for your domain name. The idea is to give out an initial clue to your potential clients about your business.

2. Your domain name should be filled with keywords. This will help searchers find your site easily because most search engines categorize sites according to the keywords.

3. Of course it would be impractical to have a domain if you don't have a business name. Before anything else, you must have a business name first. This is important because you can also use your business name as the domain name provided that no other website uses that particular domain name.

4. If you are having a hard time making a domain name, then you might want to ask help from your business partners. Help is important because creating a domain is not as simple as it sounds. Besides, as the saying goes, two heads are better than one.

5. When you have finally solved the problem as to the domain name, then it is time to decide on the extension. The extensions are the .com, .net, .org you see at the end of a web address. People find sites with a .com extension more credible and reliable than those having .net or any other extension. In addition, having a .com extension gives out the message that you are going global; you don't just focus on a particular location. Keep in mind that the extension is still part of the domain name.

6. Impression. Your domain name should have the capacity to make an impression; however, do not just make any impression because as we all know first impressions last. Your domain name should be able to create a positive impression because a negative one is bad for business. Choose a domain name that embodies credibility, trustworthiness and reliability. These characteristics are important and should be emphasized because online consumers are becoming more vigilant due to the widespread occurrences of online scams.

7. Readability. Not everyone has an extraordinary memory so it is important that your domain name is easy to read and remember. Using special characters like hyphens or dashes are really not recommended because people tend to forget or ignore this and end up typing the wrong domain name. Keep your domain short to make it easier to read as well as remember.
